Hell’s Canyon Adventure Run 2012

NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN ORGANIZED CLUB RUNNING EVENT

If you have ever watched the CBS TV series “Survivor” you know what fun challenging the great outdoors can be. So, if you missed the opportunity to participate in the “Hells Canyon Adventure Run” then you will really miss out on a great happening. It’s your choice of running 15 or 31 miles along the Snake River to Pittsburgh Landing. You must be completely self-supported with food, water, first-aid, and proper attire. This private, non-club event costs $60 cash to cover the jet boat ride. It’s very important you show up the night before for the Pot Luck dinner and Social. Read below for more details.

WHEN: SATURDAY, MARCH 24, 2012

THE FIRST BOAT WILL LEAVE PITTSBURGH LANDING AT 6:30 AM PACIFIC STANDARD TIME. NOTE: BOAT WILL MAKE TWO TRIPS IF WE HAVE MORE THAN 35 PEOPLE. (IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 35 PEOPLE, RUNNERS RUNNING THE SHORT VERSION WILL GO ON THE SECOND BOAT TRIP THAT WILL LEAVE AROUND 8:15 AM PACIFIC STANDARD TIME)

THIS IS A TRAIL RUN THROUGH HELLS CANYON. THE SHORT VERSION IS FROM SHEEP CREEK TO PITTSBURGH LANDING- ABOUT 15 MILES. THE LONG VERSION IS FROM JUST BELOW HELLS CANYON DAM TO PITTSBURGH LANDING- ABOUT 31 MILES. THE RUN WILL BE A FEW MILES SHORTER IF THE BOAT CANNOT MAKE IT OVER THE LAST BIG RAPID. THE BOAT DRIVER WILL MAKE THAT DECISION WHEN HE GETS THERE. YOU RUN/HIKE SELF-CONTAINED. BRING WITH YOU ALL WATER, FOOD, CLOTHING AND FIRST AID YOU MIGHT NEED. CARRY OUT YOUR WRAPPERS, GARBAGE, ETC.

THE COST IS $60.00 PER PERSON FOR BOTH THE LONG AND SHORT VERSION. PAYMENT WILL BE MADE DIRECTLY TO THE BOAT DRIVER, SO BRING PAYMENT IN CASH! (A MINIMUM OF 25 PEOPLE MUST BE FULLY PAID THE MORNING OF THE RUN.

FOR THOSE THAT CAMP AT PITTSBURGH LANDING THE NIGHT BEFORE, WE’LL HAVE A CAMP FIRE (BRING SOME WOOD). WE’LL ALSO HAVE A POTLUCK DINNER, ASSUMING YOU BRING SOMETHING TO EAT. WHOEVER EATS SHOULD HELP WITH THE CLEAN-UP!

This picture takes a while to download, but it’s really cool! It’s looking southwest from the Idaho side toward the Kirkwood Creek Ranch in the foreground and Temperance Creek in the background on the Oregon side. That’s Summit Ridge way in the background. Notice the trail running along the river… that’s not the one you’ll be on… but the trail coming up the side of the mountain in the foreground IS !!!
